Overburden is the name given to the body of earth and rock which lies above a deposit of wanted ore or coal. In open cast mining, it must be removed before the target material can be recovered.

Overburden ,.,. if a guy said I'm overburdened.. then he means that his inventory ( bags, pockets, backpack are FULL and he is too heavy to run.

Overburden is the layer of soil and rock that lies above a mineral deposit. It must be removed during mining operations to access the desired mineral resources underneath. This process can involve excavation, blasting, and other methods to clear the overlying material.

What is the rock material above a coal seam called?

overburden

How do you calculate effective overburden pressure on pile toe?

To calculate the effective overburden pressure on a pile toe, you would typically need to consider the weight of the soil above the pile toe that contributes to the effective stress. This can be calculated using the unit weight of the soil and the depth at which the pile toe is located. The effective overburden pressure helps determine the bearing capacity and settlement behavior of the pile.

How is bornite mined?

Bornite is typically mined using large-scale open pit mining methods. This involves removing overburden to expose the bornite ore, which is then extracted using explosives and heavy machinery. The ore is then processed to separate the bornite mineral from the surrounding rock and other minerals.

How does pillow basalt form?

Pillow basalt forms when basaltic lava erupts underwater and cools rapidly, creating pillow-shaped structures. Water cools the lava quickly, causing it to solidify into distinctive pillow-like shapes as it is extruded.

What process happens when mud and silt is buried and air and water are squeezed out producing rocks such as shale?

Compaction is the process of pore space reduction due to pressure exerted, normally by overburden weight. Shale would be produced by the process of lithification, which includes the individual steps of compaction and cementation of particles of sediment. Cementation occurs as mineral crystals precipitate from the water removed by compaction, binding the sedimentary particles together into rock.
