tonne is referred to as metric ton. In the UK a Ton is 2,240 pounds (1,016 kg) (avoirdupois pounds).[2] In the United States and Canada,[3] however, a ton is defined to be 2,000 pounds (907 kg). To avoid confusion, the former is more specifically referred to as a "long ton" and the latter, a "short ton"; neither should be confused with the metric ton (tonne), which is 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lb).

So depending on where you are, if you just say ton it's either the British or the Northamerican ton which are some 93 kg (205 lb) different from each other.

By the way; You could have found it on Wikipedia...

The difference is in the capitalization of the "T". "1 Ton" refers to a unit of weight equivalent to 2,000 pounds, often used in the United States, while "1 ton" generally refers to a metric ton, which is equivalent to 1,000 kilograms or 2,204.62 pounds.
