When someone wants to know more about a problem, such as who is effected or what needs to be learned/measured, they do qualitative research.Quantitative research is done once the problem and the questions have been better established. Quantitative research relies heavily on numbers and other measurable data in order to uncover existing patterns.

For example, suppose you have a dozen poor-quality apples and your brother has two high-quality apples. A quantitative view would say that you were better off than he, and a qualitative view would say that he was better off than you.
