Actually the fastest flowing river in the world is one that no one would ever suspect. I claim the Passiac River at Paterson NJ is hands down the fastest flowing river in the world during flood stage.

The Great Falls of the Passaic River at Paterson NJ falls 77 ft into an extreme narrow gorge which at the head of the gorge the river channel is no more than 25-30 ft wide. It is at this point in the falls into which the greatest volume of river water plummets. At flood stage when there is many billions of gallons per day going over the falls, the combination of the velocity of the descending water crushing down onto the channel squeezes or puts pressure onto the water in the channel from above. This combined with a very narrow cross section causes the velocity in that short and small section of the river to easily flow some 70 mph. There is nothing like it anywhere in the country maybe the world. This is not a man made channel, it is natural, so the flow velocity during floods is the fastest naturally occurring flow (if you can call it flow, it literally shoots laterally out of the narrow section of gorge)

The fastest moving glacier in the world is The Columbia Glacier. The Columbia Glacier, between Valdez and Anchorage, Alaska sped up in 1999 from 25 metres per day to 35 metres per day. From 1982 to 2000, the glacier retreated 12 kilometres. Talk about glacial speed!

What is the world's fastest moving glaciers?

The world's fastest moving glaciers are found in Greenland and Antarctica. The Jakobshavn Glacier in Greenland is one of the fastest moving glaciers, reaching speeds of up to 150 feet per day. In Antarctica, glaciers like the Lambert Glacier have been recorded to move at speeds exceeding 16 feet per day.

Fastest moving part of a glacier is?

The fastest moving part of a glacier is typically the center of the glacier where it is flowing downhill and under the influence of gravity. This is known as the glacier's "zone of maximum flow" and can reach speeds of several feet to several tens of feet per day.

What part of a glacier moves fastest when glacier moves by internal plastic flow?

The center or axis of a glacier generally moves the fastest when the glacier is moving by internal plastic flow. This is due to the greater pressure and thickness of ice at the center, causing it to flow more readily than the slower moving edges and margins of the glacier.

Where is longest glacier in the world locate?

Where is the world's longest glacier? The world's longest glacier is the Lambert-Fisher glacier at an icy 320 miles in length and a not-so-hot 25 miles in width. The Lambert-Fisher glacier is a speed demon as far as slow moving masses of ice go, moving over a half mile each year. The Lambert-Fisher Glacier located in Antarctica

What part of glacier moves fastest when the glacier moves by internal plastic flow?

The central part of the glacier moves fastest than its edges as it is thickest from the center.

What de you call a slow-moving mass of ice on a mountain?

Depending on when it was formed, the size and speed it is moving it could be either an Avalanche or Glacier. If it is an incredibly old, slow moving, large, ice mass it is likely a Glacier; however if it is a quickly moving, small (relatively), ice mass it is an Avalanche.

When a glacier stops moving forward what will be deposited in front of it?

When a glacier stops moving and end moraine will be deposited in front of it.

Is a glacier formed by a flow of a river?

No. A glacier is a mass of moving snow and ice.

a cold front is the fastest moving front

What is the biggest glacier?

The Lambert Glacier in Antarctica is 100 km wide, and about 400 km long. The Beardmore Glacier is 160 km long before it enters the Ross ice Shelf, and becomes indistinguishable from that, though it is still probably sitting on bed rock.Even bigger in area, are the various ice plateaus and ice shelves, but these are not moving fast enough to be considered glaciers.

What moraines are ridges of rock debris formed in front of a moving glacier.?

Ridges of rock debris that form in front of a glacier are called terminal moraines at the point that the glacier stops moving ahead.
