At 09:40 in the morning of November 1st 1755, a Megathrust Earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale struck 120 miles off the south-western tip of Portugal. Over 100,000 people died, at least 1/2 of them were from the Tsunami that shortly followed. It is one of the largest, deadliest and most famous earthquakes ever known.

2. The 365 Crete Earthquake

On the morning of July 21st 365, a large Earthquake measuring 8.5 on the Richter scale struck the Island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea. A major Tsunami followed 20 minutes after the Quake, causing magor damage in: Greece, Libya, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, Tunisia and Italy. Thousands of People Died.
