The SAGE AN/FSQ-7 air defense computer was the biggest computer ever built and used roughly 50,000 vacuum tubes and weighed 250 tons and consumed up to 3 megawatts of electricity and performing about 75,000 instructions per second (which was only about average for its time and very very slow compared to modern computers).

It was designed initially by MIT but the design was finished by IBM who actually built all the machines and support equipment and provided the software engineering staff to program it for the US Air Force.
