The metric system (the SI, to be more precise) will make it easier to trade with other countries, since almost everybody else already uses SI units.

Also, it will make several calculations quite a lot easier. For example: convert 5.72 kilometers to meters. Answer: multiply this by 1000, so the result is 5720. This calculation can be done in your head, by moving the decimal point three digits to the right. Now try converting 5.72 miles into feet in your head!
