Copernicus hypothesized (discovered) that the Sun is the center of the universe and that the Earth isn't. (Actually the Sun is not the center of the Universe but it its the center of our solar system).

At that time the church thought that the Earth was the center of the universe and they thought that they were right all the time and Nicolas Copernicus proved them wrong and they got angry at him for doing that because a lot of people didn't trust the church any more.
