∙ 12y agoPeople use "kilogram" for both weight and mass, but that usage is wrong.
The 'kilogram' and 'gram' are units of mass, not weight. For weight, you need a unit
of force, which is the "Newton".
If you prefer to remain lazy and say that one kilogram of mass weighs one kilogram,
you can get away with it as a grocer, an office worker, or a taxi driver. But if you
intend to become an astronaut, an astronomer, or a space-tug pilot, you'll need to
learn how to do it right. Otherwise you'll find yourself in an uncomfortable position
some day, like on the moon, where a kilogram weighs only 1/6 of a kilogram.
That would definitely lead to all kinds of confusion.

∙ 12y agoThe unit in the metric system used to measure weight or mass is the gram (g) for smaller measurements and the kilogram (kg) for larger measurements.
The metric system can measure length (meters), mass (grams), and volume (liters).
The metric unit for measuring human weight is actually the Newton (N). Newton's are a measure of force and weight is the product of the acceleration of gravity and an objects mass. The metric unit for measuring human mass is the kilogram (kg).
A gram is a unit of mass in the metric system. It is used to measure the weight or mass of an object.
The appropriate metric unit to measure the mass of a lawn mower would be kilograms (kg). This unit is commonly used for measuring the weight of objects in metric system.
10 grams is equivalent to 0.01 kilograms in the metric system.

The metric units used to measure the mass of your weight would be kilograms (kg) or grams (g).
Tape measure
Mass is measured in kilograms.
