The official SI unit measuring length or distance is meters. If the plant stem is less than 1 meter in length prefixes may be added to the SI unit as appropriate (e.g. decimeters, centimeters, milimeters, etc.).

The SI unit for length is the meter.

The SI unit for time is the second.

You would need both of these to be able to measure the rate of growth of a tree, which could be measured in any units of speed, but if you wanted to use SI units, then it'd be meters per second.

You could use centimeters or inches to measure the height or width of a plant. For larger plants, you may use meters or feet. Volume of soil could be measured in liters or cubic feet.
