value of what?

distance = metre, since kilometre is literally 1000 metres.

weight = tonne (metric ton)

The largest value of the metric system is that it is uniform and works.

The metric system, or more correctly the SI system, can measure pretty much anything. It uses seven base units; length-metre, mass-kilogram, time-second, temperature-kelvin, electric current-ampere, luminous intensity-candela, amount of substance-mole. From these seven all the other units are derived. Speed is metre per second, acceleration metre per second per second, force(in newtons) kilogram times metres divided by seconds squared. Energy is newtons times metres.

The size of the unit is only limited by the size of the thing measured. Temperature has a lower limit of 0 kelvin, absolute zero, no temperature below this is theoretically possible, and speed has an upper limit of 300 000 000 metre/second, the speed of light.

The SI system uses prefixes to indicate the fraction or multiple of the unit. milli- indicates one thousandth of the unit, so one millimetre is one thousandth of a metre (0.001m)

The prefix for the highest multiple is Yotta; 1Ym is 1 yottametre or one septillion metres, which is a 1 with 24 zeros after it. The number of millions of yottametres you can have is only limited by the size of the universe.

The largest value in the metric system is a yottameter, which is equivalent to 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 meters.
