∙ 8y agoYes we do. We usually measure AM from midnight to 12 noon, and PM from noon to midnight. However - travel-orientated situations use the 24-hour clock to avoid confusion.
The first time set on a clock is typically 12:00 AM, which represents midnight.
Yes, in fall 2011, the clock is set back one hour at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in November, not at midnight. This change marks the end of daylight saving time in regions that observe it.
Times denoted with pm occur between 12 noon and midnight. 5.35pm is thus 5.35 + 12 = 17.35 using the 24hr clock.
There is no such thing as 12 AM or 12 PM. Those are commonly used improper terms. The abbreviations AM and PM stand for Ante Meridiem and Post Meridiem, respectively. The terms ante and post mean before and after. The term meridiem refers to when the sun is at the middle of its arc across the sky. Nominally the sun is at its meridiem at noon. Since it is *at* its meridiem this is neither before nor after the meridiem. It *is* the meridiem. Likewise, midnight is neither 12 AM nor 12 PM. It is equally far from both. It is simply 12 midnight. The military clock is better than the civilian clock for many reasons. One is that eliminates the complexity of specifically accounting for whether a time is before of after midnight. On the military clock noon is read as 1200 hours, and midnight is read as 2400 hours.

The answer is equal to the sum of these numbers (not counting the midnight of the next day):12 (midnight) +1+2+3...+11+12 (noon) + 1... +10 + 11The sum of all the numbers 1 through 12 is 78. Since there are two 1-12 cycles in a day (midnight to 11 AM, then noon to 11 PM), the answer is 156 strikes in one day.
