∙ 12y agoThis is a common trick question, you're supposed to think that since gold is heavier ( really more dense) than flour that the same amount must weigh more. Of course since you have a pound of each, each weighs a pound so their weights are identical. However, if you want to be technically correct the pound of flour is heavier. This is because unlike the metric system where a kilogram is always a kilogram, in nonmetric units a pound isn't always a pound. Gold and other precious metals are weighed in Troy ounces, while flour is weighed in avoirdupois ounces. A troy ounce equal 31g there are 12 troy ounces to a troy pound, one troy pound is the same as 0.373kg; an avoirdupois ounce is 28g there are 16 avoirdupois ounces to a pound which is equal to 0.453kg.
So one pound of flour weighs 0.453kg, and a pound of gold weighs 0.373kg, the pound of flour is heavier.
A pound of flour and a pound of gold both weigh the same, which is one pound. The difference lies in their density and value, with gold being denser and more valuable than flour.

∙ 14y agoNeither weighs more or less than the other. Both have the same weight. Namely, one pound.
Also, both have the same mass, namely 0.4536 kilogram. (rounded)

A ton of paper is heavier than a pound of gold. A ton is equivalent to 2,000 pounds, so a ton of paper is much heavier than a pound of gold.
A pound is heavier than a gram. There are approximately 453.592 grams in a pound.
The statement "1 pound of pure cotton is heavier than 1 pound of gold" is incorrect because 1 pound is always equal to 1 pound, regardless of the material it is measuring. The difference lies in the density of the materials - gold is denser than cotton, so a pound of gold takes up less physical space compared to a pound of cotton.
A pound is heavier than 100 grams. One pound is equivalent to approximately 454 grams.
A kilogram is heavier than a pound. 1 kilogram is equivalent to about 2.2 pounds.
A ton of paper is heavier than a pound of gold. A ton is equivalent to 2,000 pounds, so a ton of paper is much heavier than a pound of gold.
A pound of gold and a pound of cotton weigh the same because they both weigh one pound. The difference lies in their volume and value, as gold is much denser and more valuable than cotton.
A pound is heavier than a gram. There are approximately 453.592 grams in a pound.
the lead clearly weighs more...
Precious metals like gold and silver are weighed using the Troy system where there are 12 Troy ounces in a Troy pound and each oz. consists of approximately 31.1 grams. Most other items in English-speaking countries are weighed using the Avoirdupois system where there are 16 Avoirdupois ounces in each Avoirdupois pound and each oz. consists of approximately 28.35 grams. Consequently, a Troy pound = 373.2 grams and an Avoirdupois pound = 453.6 grams. So, an ounce of gold is heavier than and ounce of iron, but a pound of iron is heavier than a pound of gold.
1 pound = 16 ouncesSo a pound is heavier
I think an pound is heavier is because an ounce is what you add to a pound and a ponds is what you get
There are 3.6 cups in 1 pound of flour, or 18 cups in a 5 pound bag of flour.

23oz is heavier....a pound is only 16oz
pound is heavier....as 1 pound=1000 kilograms
The question as I heard it years ago was phrased, "Which is heavier a pound of gold or a pound of feathers?" Gold, being a precious metal, is weighed on the Troy system, which uses a wimpy pound and a wimpy ounce. Feathers are measured on the avoirdupois system, which has 16 full ounces in a pound. Ah, but you asked about the kg! As far as I know, a kg is a kg. So ten thousand grams of copper are heavier than one thousand grams of gold. (Technically, a kg is mass rather than weight, but that is another problem.)
