At present the fastest time for the 100 meters sprint is held by Linford Christie at 9.87 seconds. This was at Stuttgart in Germany in August 1993. Of course he is now retired and so he is probably not the fastest man in Britain right now who is actually running in competitive athletics. This is likely to be Dwain Chambers who ran this year (2009) 10.00 at the world athletics championships in Berlin. This is not as fast as his 9.97 run in Seville in August 1999.
