Copernicus was considered the father of modern astronomy because he devised a new heliocentric (Sun-centered) system. He also stated that the Earth and all the other planets revolved around a stationary central Sun.

Nicolaus Copernicus is remembered for proposing the heliocentric model of the universe, which placed the Sun rather than Earth at the center. This revolutionized astronomy and challenged the prevailing geocentric view, leading to a major shift in scientific understanding. Copernicus's work laid the foundation for modern astronomy and our understanding of the cosmos.

Copernicus was a scientist who published a book 'Onthe Revolutions of Heavenly Spheres' (in latin) in 1543. The book demonstrated that the motions of objects in the night sky could be explained without the Earth being placed stationary in the centre. The book is widely accredited with beginning the scientific revolution. (This was a period of time when science progressed rapidly when it had hardly changed throughout the whole middle-ages)
