The culture of the United States is ingrained in the imperial system of measurement, and only a handful of things are expressed with metric units in the US. As far as meters per second goes though, if you're talking about cars, kilometers per hour would be a typical unit for speed that you see in a country that uses the metric system. You hardly ever see something expressed in feet per second, when referring to travel or automobiles.

The US uses miles per hour because it is the customary unit for measuring speed in the country. The metric system, which includes meters per second, is not as widely adopted in the US compared to other countries. Additionally, there has been limited push for complete metrication in the US, which is why miles per hour remains the more commonly used unit for speed.
