∙ 17y agoProbably because Winchester never changed the Model number except by dropping the '18' around 1915. Sort of like having a Ford Mustang. A 1965 model and a 2005 model are both Mustangs, but they're not the same.

However, subtle improvements and updates have likely been made over the years, making the current models not exactly the same as the 1984 version. Additionally, the overall appearance and feel of the newer models may contribute to the perception of similarity to the 1984 model.
