0.5 divided by 0.01 why is equal to 50?

Both decimals are now converted to two d.p. (that hundredths).

In 0,5 there are 0.50 or fifty hundredths.

In 0,01 there is 0.01 or one hundredth.

So one hundredth multplied by '50' gives you fifty hundredths (0.50 or 0.5).

To divide decimals

Shift the decimal point so many places to the right in both numbers 50, so that the denominator is a whole number.

0.5 & 0.01 becomes 50.0 and 1.0

Hence 1 ) 50 = 50 The answer.

Convert the decimals to fractions.

0.5 = 1/2 & 0.01 = 1/100
