To express "3 times the quantity m minus 7" mathematically, you would write it as 3(m - 7). This means you are multiplying the quantity m minus 7 by 3. To simplify this expression, you would distribute the 3 to both terms inside the parentheses, resulting in 3m - 21. So, "3 times the quantity m minus 7" simplifies to 3m - 21.

This formula can be expressed as

3 * (m - 7 )

If the formula was

3 * (m - 7) = 0

it can be simplified as follows:

Divide both sides of the equation by 3 to get

m - 7 = 0

Add 7 to both sides of the equation to get

m = 7

First, you have to write a formula for this, as so;

3(m-7)

Then, remove the brackets and carry out the operation, as so;

3 x m + 3 x -7

'-7' because the sign of 7 is - and 7 is a negative number, -7.

Next, simply multiply.

3 x m = 3m

3 x -7 = -21 (+ x - always equal to a minus and in this case, '3' is our positive and '7' is our negative)

3m + (-21)

  • x - always equal to a minus so it becomes;

3m - 21

Since you cannot simplify further; leave it as so.

Therefore, the answer is;

3m - 21

Or you can use a more complicated method as so;

3(m−7)

=(3)(m+−7)

=(3)(m)+(3)(−7)

=3m−21

I hope you understood the two above methods. I didn't go into detail with the second method as it might be a bit too much for you.
