This question can't be answered as asked because IXX isn't valid in any known numbering system. The nearest valid number is XIX in the Roman system, or 19 in our system. Showing my working is not possible because it was done in my head. If you want to know how you could do it in your head (or on paper if you need to show it to your teacher) here it is. * XIXII can be re-written as XXII - (II x XIX) - I. * XXII = CD * - (II x XIX) - I = - XXXIX * CD - XXXIX = CCCLXI * XIXII = CCCLXI . . . . . IXX isn't a valid Roman Numeral. XIX would be valid as would XXI. Perhaps it should be LXX? IXX (19) squared = -I(-I+XX)+XX(-I+XX) Multiplying out brackets = +I-XX-XX+CCCC Collecting like terms = -XXXXX+CCCC+I Then when simplified = CCCLXI (361) Remember that in maths a minus number multiplied by a minus number produces a plus number. Thus -I times -I is +I.
IXX (19) squared = -I(-I+XX)+XX(-I+XX) Multiplying out brackets = +I-XX-XX+CCCC Collecting like terms = -XXXX+CCCC+I (401-40) Then when simplified = CCCLXI (361) which is the correct answer. Remember that in maths a minus number multiplied by a minus number produces a plus number. Thus -I times -I is +I. David Gambell, Merseyside, England.
First of all today we write out 19 in Roman numerals as XIX but the Romans themselves would have probably calculated 19 as XVIIII and then simplified it to IXX in fact the Latin word for IXX is 'undeviginti' which literally means one from twenty. So the question is: What is IXX squared? IXX squared = -I(-I+XX)+XX(-I+XX) Multiplying out the brackets = +I-XX-XX+CCCC Collecting like terms = -XXXX+CCCC+I (401-40) When simplified = CCCLXI (361) which is the answer to your question. Note that in maths a minus number multiplied by a minus number becomes a plus number. Thus -I times -I is +I.
To convert the second moment of area (Ixx) from steel to aluminum, you can use the ratio of their modulus of elasticity (E). The ratio of E for steel to aluminum is approximately 3:1. Multiply the steel Ixx by 3 to get an estimate of the equivalent Ixx value for aluminum.
This math riddle relates to Roman Numerals where 19 is IXX, 1 is I, and 20 is XX. By removing I from IXX, you are left with XX.
19
........___ VI/X/IXX XC I That line over IXX is crucial. remove/ignore the dots...
IXX
Due to rules made during the Middle Ages, today we write out 19 in Roman numerals as XIX. But the Romans themselves would have probably wrote out 19 as XVIIII and then simplified it to IXX. In fact the Latin word for 19 is "undeviginti" which literally means one from twenty. Hence: IXX*IXX = -I*IXX + XX*IXX = +I-XX-XX+CCCC = CCCLXI (361) In Hindu-Arabic numerals: -1(-1+20) + 20(-1+20) = +1-20-20+400 = 361

its a IXX hope it answers your question
19-6-2010 though today's modern convention is to write out 19 as XIX but the Romans themselves would have probaly used IXX
The number i is the imaginary unit, representing the square root of -1. When you square i, you get -1. So, i^2 = -1. Therefore, ixx would be equivalent to i^2 * x = -x, where x is any real number.
