In a letter header it will most likely indicate "courtesy copy"; in a motor article it will probably indicate the volume of a motor in "cubic centimeters" and some other terms such: telephony (country code), company internal correspondence (conference call), commercial retail transaction (credit card), games (charade championship) etc..
