Yes, an Octagon does have a center point.

The easiest way for me to find this is by drawing lines between opposite vertexes. You should end up with four lines and they should be crossing at one point.

That is your center point! :V

Can a regular octagon be used by itself to make a tessellation?

No Internat angle of a regular octagon is 135°. No multiple of 135° will make 360°. Thus at any point there can be at most two octagons and a 90° gap. Ratty

If an octagon has a circumference of 24 what is its diameter?

I assume that when you say "circumference", you really mean "perimeter" of the octagon. I also assume that by saying, "diameter", you really refer to the widest distance between two points on the octagon. An octagon has 8 sides, so if you divide 24 by 8, then you have 3 units of length per side. Then if you were to draw lines from the center of the octagon out to the ends of the segments of the perimeter, then those lines would be 45 degrees apart from each other. In order to find the "diameter", you need to find the length of one of those lines drawn from the center of the octagon, then double it. To do this, you need to perform some trigonometry. To perform the trig, the easiest thing would be to use a right triangle. By drawing a line from the center of the octagon, perpendicular (at a right angle) to one of the outside segments of the octagon, you bisect the 45 degree angle created by the two lines on either side of it. So then you have created a right triangle inside of the octagon, with a 1.5 unit long side, and an opposing 22.5 degree angle. In this case, you want to find out the length of the longest side of this triangle, which is the hypotenuse. So, the sine of the angle 22.5 degrees is equal to 1.5 units divided by the length of the hypotenuse. If you solve for the hypotenuse, you get 3.92 units, rounded. Double this gives you 7.84 units across the octagon.

What is an octagonal pyramid?

An octagon pyramid is more properly called an octagon-based pyramid. It is a 3-dimensional object whose base is an octagon. Attached to each side of the octagon are triangles whose bases are exactly the same lengths as the corresponding sides of the octagon. The "free" vertices of these triangles meet at a point, the apex, in a plane above the base.

How do you algebraically determine the perimeterof arectangular octagon inscribed in a circle of diameter 15cmEach side of the octagon is 6.9cm from the centre of the circle?

We know that an octagon is an eight-side polygon. Since each side has the same distance form the center of the circumscribed circle of the octagon, this octagon is a regular octagon. If we draw the radii of the circle (their endpoints there are at the vertexes of the octagon), we form 8 isosceles triangle, which radius represents two their congruent sides with a measure of 7.5 cm, and the distance drawn from the center of the circle to the sides of the octagon represents their altitudes with a measure of 6.9 cm. So, by using the Pythagorean theorem we can find the half of the side of the octagon, which is: 7.5)^2 - (6.9)^2 = 8.64 Since one half of the octagon side is square root of 8.64, the whole side is 2(square root of 8.64) Thus the perimeter of this octagon is approximately 47 cm [8 x 2(square root of 8.64)].
