Any decimal number can be written as a fraction by taking the numbers after the decimal point as the numerator, and using 10, 100, 1000 etc. as appropriate for the numerator.

eg. 0.2 = 2/10

0.437 = 437/1000

You can then simplify the fraction by dividing both numbers by their highest common factor. eg. 75/100 >> 75 and 100 both have 25 as a common factor. Dividing each by 25 gives 3/4.

.81 is equivalent to 81/100 , which cannot be simplified as 81 and 100 have no common factors (other than 1).

Hence 1.81 can be written as either: 1 81/100 or 181/100
