It is best shown by an example.
Hence is a set of numbers.
2,3.6.8. 10, 10, 10. 11.17. 21.23.
First of all place then in RANK order. (That is lowest to highest ; already done).
RANGE ; The difference between the highest and lowest values
Hence 23 - 2 = 21 The Range!!!!!
MODE ; The term that occurs most frequently, In this case it is '10' because it occurs three times. all the rest only occur once.
MEDIAN : The absolute middle value. Since there are eleven terms, we require the sixth term. So counting along six places it is '10'.
MEAN : It is the sum of all the terms divided by the number of terms.
Hence
(2+3+6+8+10+10+10+11+17+21+23) / 11 =
121/11 =
11 The mean!!!!
A Calculator in Statistical (SD) mode will do all of this!!!!!
Hope that helps!!!!
To work out the mean, add up of the numbers and divide the answer by how many
numbers there are.
To work out the mode, find the number that appears most in the list. There can be 2 modes or no modes at all.
To work out the range, subtract the highest number in the list by the lowest number in the list.
To work out the median, put all the numbers in numerical order and find the middle number. If there are a even number of numbers in the list, add the two middle numbers together and divide by 2.
Hope this helps:D
All is very well but this is not bad either so i edit it :edited by Abdul777
1)
I think you mean ' how to you work out the mean, mode, range and median?'
2)
This is very easy just remember
Mode is most ---This means mode is basically the most common number in a series of numbers.
Range is the biggest number in a pack minus (-) the smallest number in a pack
Median is the middle number when put in a smallest to biggest order.
Mean is the hardest but this is just adding all the numbers in a pack together divided by the amount of numbers.
Imagine you have numbers 1,2,3,4,4,10
The mean would be 1+2+3+4+4+10 24
-------------------- = ------ = 4
6 6
The mode would be 4 because it is the most common number
The median would be put them in order
1,2,3_Here would be the median between 3 and 4 because you cant have to middle numbers(3.5)_,4,4,10
The range would be 10-1=9
So that you don't have as many different answers to work with
Prerequisite It is helpful to have an understanding of the mean, median and the mode prior to beginning work with Stem and Leaf Plots.
well mean is like you divide all the numbers you got and then add how many numbers you have like 123 and mode means which numbers that are in the math work or whatever and you find then number that is in it the most like this example:12 15 15 15 like themode is 15 because it is in the numbers the most ok and median means means you organize the numbers numerically then find the number that's in the exact middle then u can cross out the numbers that is in the exact middle ok and i don't really know what range means but when i do ill let you know ok well bye and i hope this gives you some information ok well bye
A median can have only one value.
Add up all the numbers. Then divide by how many numbers there were.
the mean is all the numbers added together and divided by however many numbers there are, the median is the middle number when in order, the mode is the most common and the range is biggest - smallest... think of it as mOde O= mOst common, mean = just mean as it takes forever to work out medIan= mIddle number and range just think the others are done already so the only one left is biggest - smallest
to work out various different types of averages
The range is the spread of data - the largest number minus the smallest. The mean, mode and median are types of average. The mean is the sum of the numbers divided by the number of numbers (e.g. the mean of 1, 1, 3, 5 and 8) is 3.6). The mode is the number that appears most often (1 for the previous example). The median is the 'middle number'. To work it out, place the numbers in order from lowest to highest. If the number of numbers is odd, the median is the number in the middle (3 for the given example). If the number of numbers is even, the median is the mean of the two middle numbers (e.g. for 1, 1, 3 and 5, the middle numbers are 1 and 3 so the median is 2). The mean and median often are similar but the mode is often greatly different to the two other averages.
So that you don't have as many different answers to work with
well when answering the mean you take the average of all the numbers so it be approxiamently around the answers and each number can affect the mean in many ways while a median is when you put the numbers in order and you get the middle number, because it is a middle the number can be far away from the beginning number or ending number. Mode is when the numbers appear the most and when picking mode it can be a dramatic change from the numbers around it. That is why calculating the mean average is better than take the median and mode, but sometimes some problems work better dealing with mode or median.
I am guessing you are asking for an example of a set of numbers with these properties. Let's start with 5 numbers, so the median will be the middle number; say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The median is 3, but so is the mean. Now let's replace the 5 with 10. The median is still 3, but the mean is 4. To make the mode less than 3, let us change the 2 into a 1. Now the median is still 3, the mode is 1, and the mean is 3.8. So 1, 1, 3, 4, 10 will work.
Prerequisite It is helpful to have an understanding of the mean, median and the mode prior to beginning work with Stem and Leaf Plots.
median means the number that appears in the middle
mean = 9 median = 6 mode = 6 So let the middle 3 numbers be 6. Now if we pick any two other numbers, the mode is 6. Also, since we have 3 6's the median will be 6 if the other two numbers are greater than 6. All that is left is to pick two number such that when they are added to 6x3=18 and then divided by 5 we have a mean of 9. There are many choices, but 18, and 9 work. So one possibility is 6,6,6,9,18 We could still have a mean of 9 if we use a number bigger than 6 and smaller than 6. For example 5,6,6,6,22 The mean is not changed because 5 and 22 are still 27 and 6 is still the median and the mode. There are infinitely many more answers.
Not always. An average is a value that acts as a good representative of a set of numbers. Mathematically, the average is the sum of all values, divided by the number of values there are. This is known as the arithmetic mean. There are also two other forms of average, other than the arithmetic mean. They are the Mode and Median. The Mode is the most common value in a list and the Median is the middle value when all are arranged in numerical order. The mean is the most common form of average used. However there are occasions where a mode or median is better. If you have a lot of numbers and one number is huge compared to all the rest, then the mean is likely to give a number that is above nearly all the numbers, so is not very representative. A median or a mode will work better in that situation. The mean will often result in a number that is a decimal, rather than a whole number, even if the numbers are all whole numbers. A median or may result in a whole number, though not always.A mode is good when there are lots of numbers that are in groups of the same, as it will show which number is most common. If there is not one most common number, then there is no mode.yes. the mean is the average.
The term median means what makes your art work such as sculptures, paints, etc.
136.25 The above answer is the Mean, there are other averages such as the range, median and mode if anyone can be bothered to work them out below:
