The quickest way is to take the number of gifts multiplied by how many days they were given. The partridge was one gift, given 12 times. The turtle doves were 2 gifts, given 11 times and so on. The math looks like this:

4 X 9 = 36
5 X 8 = 40
6 X 7 = 42
7 X 6 = 42
8 X 5 = 40
9 X 4 = 36
10 X 3 = 30
11 X 2 = 22
