You take the sum of the sample, then divide by the number of items in the sample.

In other words, add up all the values you have, then divide by the number of values.

eg. Find the mean of 5, 3 , 6, and 2:

5+3+6+2 = 16

16/4 = 4 the " / " means division, it is divided by 4 because there are four numbers to add

Mean is 4

Find the mean of 141, 126, and 120:

141+126+120=387/3=129 the " / " means division, it is divided by 3 because there are three numbers to add

Mean is 129
