If you find it difficult to deal with decimal multiplication, temporarily use the following short cut, but in the long run definitely understand, learn and practice decimal multiplication.

Temporary trick:

Given 3.5 x 4

Now multiply 3.5 by 10 (but remember that you did this)

So now the product is 35 x 4 = 140 (remember you multiplied 3.5 by 10)

So now the product is 140 but you have to divide this by 10 to nullify the effect of you having multiplied 3.5 by 10 previously. So divide 140 by 10 which is easy

140/10 = 14.0 or simply 14

Oh, dude, multiplying 3.5 by 4 is like, totally easy! You just multiply the whole numbers first, so that's 4 times 3, which is 12. Then you deal with the decimals, which is like, adding a zero at the end of 3.5 to make it 35, and then multiplying that by 4 to get 140. So, the answer is 14.

To multiply 3.5 by 4, you can treat the decimal number as a whole number and multiply as usual. So, 3.5 x 4 becomes 35 x 4, which equals 140. Another way to approach this is to multiply 3.5 by 4, which gives you 14. Finally, you can also convert 3.5 to a fraction (7/2) and multiply it by 4, resulting in 28/2 or 14.

Well, darling, to multiply 3.5 by 4, you simply multiply the whole numbers first, which gives you 14. Then you tackle the decimal - count the total number of decimal places in the numbers you're multiplying (1 in 3.5 and 0 in 4), which gives you a total of 1 decimal place in the answer. So, the result is 14.0 or just plain old 14. Hope that clears things up for you, sugar!
