Sorry, I'm answering my own question to provide more information. (Why doesn't Wiki answers allow more than single-sentence questions? It's ridiculous.) This was in a puzzle book. A person goes to the bank with a check. The teller transposes the dollars and cents, and gives way too much money. The person loses 0.02 through a hole in pocket on the way home, and now has twice the original face value. I already have the answer: $32.65 and $65.32. What I need is an equation that will solve this without plugging random numbers in until you accidentally hit on the correct answer. If X = Original check and Y = transposed, already know that X = (Y - 0.02)/2, but beyond that???
There are many words for a teller, depending on the context. If used in terms of a bank teller, alternatives include cashier, paymaster. If it is used to describe someone who tells something, then narrator or storyteller can be used.

My friend had $100,000 and the teller put the deposit slip decimal so it read $10,000. That is important for $90,000.

The whole riddle is... An absent-minded bank teller switched the dollars and cents when he cashed a check for Mr. Brown, giving him dollars instead of cents, and cents instead of dollars. After buying a five-cent newspaper, Mr. Brown discovered that he had left exactly twice as much as his original check. What was the amount of the check? The answer is $31.63 Cash given 63.31
