If the fractions have the same denominator, come up with an answer (it should benegative) (ex. 4/5-8/5=[-4/5]).
If not, make the fractions of equivalent denominators and then do as i have shown above (like so; 2/3-73/21=14/21-73/21=[59/21]=[-2 17/21])
You just go ahead. You will end up with a negative answer.
A mixed number has a whole number and a fraction. A fraction is a number that is less than whole and that has a denominator underneath a numerator. To add or subtract mixed numbers, add or subtract the fractions, then add or subtract the whole numbers. If the fraction portion of a mixed number, such as 2 5/6, is more than the fraction portion of the mixed number you're trying to subtract from, such as 3 1/6, you must borrow from the whole number of the mixed number you're trying to subtract from to make its fraction bigger... An improper fraction is already in it's simplest form as long as in the fraction part the denominator is bigger then the numerator.

The bigger numerator is the bigger fraction.
They are improper or 'top heavy' fractions
Rule #1 When two fractions have the same denominator, the bigger fraction is the one with the bigger numerator. Rule # 2 When comparing fractions that have the same numerator, the bigger fraction is the one with the smaller denominator. Rule # 3 You can convert the fractions and then just put the greater than, less than or equal to sign to see what the comparison is between the fractions.
Proper Fractions:a fraction in which the numerator is smaller than the denominator such as:6/9 or 4/7...improper fraction:a fraction in which the numerator is bigger than the denominator such as: 18/4 or 97/3. Improper fractions are normally used when converting fractions.

You do them the same way as you "do" other fractions.
An improper fraction
The numberator does not have to be less than or equal to the denominator in a fraction. If the numerator is less than the denominator, it is a "proper" fraction. If the numerator is equal to the denominator, it is the integer 1.But the numerator can be bigger than the denominator, and it is then called an improper fraction.
You can subtract the bigger fraction by the smaller fraction and then put a minus sign in front of the answer.
