How do you use the elimination method to solve 3r-5s equals -16 and 5r plus 3s equals 64?

3(3r-5s = -16)

5(5r+3s = 64)

Multiply all terms in the first equation by 3 and in the second equation by 5:

9r-15s = -48

25r+15s = 320

Add the equations together in order to eliminate s:

34r = 272

Divide both sides by 34 to find the value of r:

r = 8

Substitute the value of r into the original equations to find the value of s:

Therefore: r = 8 and s = 8
