It's kinda hard to explain long division in text but here goes:

To divide 8 into any number, you begin by trying it divide it into the first digit of the number. In this case it's 2. When it won't go evenly into the the first digit you combine (not add) the first and second digits. In this case that's 25. 8 will go evenly into 25 4 times with one left over (called the remainder), so remember or record the number 4. Now take the left over 1 and combine (not add) it with the next number which in this case is 6 forming 16. Eight will go into 16 2 times so join 4 from earlier to 2. This creates 42. 8 divided into 256 is 42.
