Pi is an irrational number, which means that it cannot be expressed as a fraction m/n, where m and n are integers. Consequently, its decimal representation never ends or repeats. Therefore, there are an infinite number of digits in pi. Infinite is an umbrella term for all the transfinite numbers, but in this case it is a countable infinite.

Pi is also a transcendental number, which means that no finite sequence of algebraic operations on integers (powers, roots, sums, etc.) could ever produce it. This makes it different from other Irrational Numbers such as sqrt(2) property-wise.

The exception to the above is if the base used was a non-zero integer power of pi, (base πn), then there would be |n| digits.

I know: 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944 so far.

That's 60 digits after the decimal point.

A man has mastered over 5,000 digits of pi. I saw him on 20/20 news channel. Look him up if you wish.
