I just came from my bank with a coffee can full of pennies. The 1lb coffee can weighed in on my digital scale at 18.2lb. I received just over $30 and change back from my bank today. Just in case you are curious I hope this helps because I read everything from $9 to $33 online before going to my bank. I knew there were more than $9 worth of pennies by far but, I wasn't exactly sure. I wasn't about to count them!

The volume of a standard coffee can is approximately 1 gallon or 231 cubic inches. The volume of a penny is 0.0268 cubic inches. Dividing the volume of the coffee can by the volume of a penny gives us approximately 8,612 pennies that can fit into a coffee can.

It is not possible to answer the question because:

  1. A coffee can is not a standard measure.
  2. Many countries use pennies as their minor currency units and these are different in size.
