This is very easy. Since 10 billion is three orders higher than 10 million, we can write this as:

(10^10) / (10^7) = 10^(10-7) = 10^3 = 1000

Think about it. Each 1000 represents a higher-valued prefix.

Thousand is the base 0.

Mil-lion is the base 1.

Bil-lion is the base 2.

Tril-lion is the base 3.

Quadril-lion is the base 4.

... and so on.

In other words, a billion is only one value higher than a million, so 2 - 1 = 1

and (1000^1) = 1000

If the number had been a trillion, we would have calculated this as: 3 - 1 = 2

and (1000^2) = 1,000,000
