46 is composite, because 2 goes into it. A Prime number has only 2 factors which are 1 and itself. Composite numbers are everything else except 1 and 0. 1 and 0 are neither prime, nor composite.

46 is even ie, it is divisible by 2. So it cannot be prime.
46 is a composite number because it is even and for sure it has other factors aside from 1 and itself which is 2.
