No, a square-based pyramid is not a prism. A prism is a polyhedron with two parallel and congruent faces called bases, and all other faces are parallelograms. In contrast, a square-based pyramid has a square base and triangular faces that meet at a single point called the apex. Therefore, a square-based pyramid does not meet the definition of a prism.

Oh, dude, let me break it down for you. So, technically, a square-based pyramid is not a prism because a prism has two parallel and congruent bases, while a pyramid only has one base and triangular sides. But hey, if you squint your eyes and tilt your head a bit, I guess you could say they're kind of like distant cousins in the world of geometry.

Well, honey, a square-based pyramid is not a prism. Prisms have two parallel and congruent bases, while a pyramid has just one base and triangular sides that meet at a single point called the apex. So, in the world of geometry, these two shapes may look similar, but they ain't the same.

No,it is not a prism because basically prism is like when you cut it in half it still has the face that it the same shape eg:cuboid and triangular prism.Thank you for your time. Prisms are shapes made of transparent material through which light can pass. As they pass into the prism the light slows and due to the fact that different colour light travels at different speeds in some material the light separates into it's component parts making a colourful spectrum. A prism can be any shape, as long as it is transparent. Therefore a square based pyramid could be a prism if made of the right stuff. It does not follow that all pyramids are prisms though.

The answer below is actually a concatenation of several answers by different people. Unfortunately, at least one of them has brought in the optical prism whereas the question appears to be about geometric shapes.

A square based pyramid is a 3D shape with a square base and four triangular faces attached to each side of the square which come together at an apex above the base. A prism, on the other hand, has two polygonal faces which can have any number of sides. These are called bases and are congruent, side by side and are joined together by rectangular faces which are called lateral faces.

A square based pyramid has four triangular faces. In a prism the maximum number of faces that are not rectangular is two, so it can never have 4 triangular faces. So a square based pyramid cannot be a prism.

And finally, the material that it is made from is irrelevant for this purpose.
