Let Pamela's age be "p", and Jiri's age be "j". We are told:
p = j + 7
p + j = 61
You can take the first equation, and "plug" it into the second one:
∴ (j + 7) + j = 61
∴ 2j = 54
∴ j = 27
So Jiri is 27 years old.
If we want to, we can take that value, and use it to calculate Pamela's age:
p = j + 7
∴ p = 27 + 7
∴ p = 34
So Pamela is 34 years old.
