Significant Figures

Rule 1 : Zeros must be kept to show the position of the decimal point.

Rule 2 : If the first figure to be discarded is 5 or more, the previous figure is increased by 1.

Rule 3 : Zeros must be retained to indicate that 0 is a significant figure.

0.004738265 : - Rule 1 the part of the number 0.00 must be kept.

The third significant figure is therefore 0.0047?

Rule 2 the first number to be discarded is 8 therefore the previous figure is increased by 1. (3 is increased to 4)

The number to 3sf is 0.00474
