4x-5y = -8

4x+40 = y => y = 4x+40

Substitute the value of y into the top equation:

4x-5(4x+40) = -8

4x-20x-200 = -8

4x-20x = 200-8

-16x = 192

Divide both sides by -16 to find the value of x:

x = -12

Substitute the value of x into the original equations to find the value of y:

Therefore: x = -12 and y = -8
