3x + 2y = 4 (Eq 1); 4x + 3y = 7 (Eq 2) Eliminate x Eq 1 x 4 = 12x + 8y = 16 (Eq 3) Eq 2 x 3 = 12x + 9y = 21 (Eq 4) Subtract Eq 3 from Eq 4 y = 5 so x = (4 - 10)/3 = -6/3 ie -2 Check Eq 2: (4 x -2) + (3 x 5) = -8 + 15 = 7 QED
