1 + 1 = 2

Here are a few things to think about:

  • In binary, 1 + 1 = 10
  • If 1 isn't really added, 1 & 1 = 11
  • If you imagine problem as in a picture, it would look like this with another line on top: |+|

In other words, one plus one equals a window or a medic box.

  • If there is a maximum limit that is <2, the calculation overflows and would probably give an error.

However, in binary, 1+1 needs more info. At what posistion are the "on" values? 1 + 1 could equal anything from 2 through infinity as long as the values are in binary form. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024...

The following is an explanation for the beginners of math:

OK now. 1 is the second value in our base 10 number system. It is also a value in binary language, either on or off. Since this category is arithmetic, I'll stick to the first. 1 caries a value in our number system. We can say I have an apple, this would be 1. If I don't have an apple, it would be zero.

Think of zero as a place holder for the whole number to its left. 100 is 1 with two 0's which by themselves have no value. In this number however, the leftmost 0 counts as ten and the next 100.

This question asks for 1 + 1. This is an example where 0 is zero. After one there are an infinite number of numbers. Here though, 1 + 1 = 2, because in our system, 2 is the next value. We could have called these numbers anything we wanted. But from the design of our system 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... When you add an apple in each hand, you actually have the value we call 2.
One plus one makes two.
