The term Greatest Common Multiple has no meaning; there is no such thing as a greatest multiple.

There are the terms:

Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) which is the smallest positive (whole) number which is a multiple of two, or more, numbers. eg LCM(4, 10) = 20 as 20 is the first number greater than 0 which is a multiple of both 4 and 10.

Highest Common Factor (HCF), or Greatest Common Factor (GCF) which is the largest positive (whole) number that divides into all the numbers (without remainder); this can also said to be the largest positive number (whole) number which has all the numbers as some multiple of it. eg HCF(25, 60) = 5 since 5 is the highest positive (whole) number which divides into 25 and 60 (without remainder).

The Lowest Common Factor of any set of numbers is 1 as 1 is the smallest positive (whole) number and it divides into every other (whole) number without remainder; this is not very useful.

There is no such thing. A common multiple (of two or more numbers) is a number that is a multiple of all of them. There is no GREATEST common multiple. For example, 24 is a common multiple of 4 and 6. But if you multiply 24 x 2 - and you can multiply the result by 2, over and over again - you can always get a greater common multiple.

The greatest common multiple is an infinite term and not very practical for problem solving.

What is the term used to mean belonging to two or more numbers?

One word would be "common" as in "greatest common factor" or "least common multiple".

What is the greatest of the common factors of two or more numbers called?

The greatest common factor between two numbers. There is no term.

What does greatest common multiple mean?

A multiple of a number x is xy where y is any integer. For example, multiples of 3 include 12 (3x4) 15 (3x5) and 36 (3x12) A common multiple of x and z is any number that can be expressed as a multiple of x or z. For instance 36 is a common multiple of 3 and 4, as it is a multiple of both. The term "greatest" means the highest valued number. For instance, the greatest out of 4, 68 and 20 is 68. It makes no sense to speak of a "greatest common multiple" as common multiples will go up to infinity. If I have a common multiple m, then 2m, 3m, 4m and so on will also be common multiples.

What does the math term for common multiple mean?

the base.

What is the most common multiple of 48 and 64?

"most common multiple" is not a recognised mathematical term. 48 is a common multiple, but it is not the Least Common Multiple (LCM).

What is the lowest term for 180 156?

The least common multiple of 180 and 156 is 2340. The greatest common factor is 12.

What does the term 'LCM' mean in math?

LCM is an abbreviation for "least common multiple."

What is the greatest common multiple of 2 and 8?

Multiples are numbers greater than or equal to the number that the number will divide. So the multiples are: 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40 So now we can see that 40 is the least common multiple of 5 and 8. Hope this helps.

You need at least two terms to find a GCF between them.

What is the term LCM?

Least common multiple.

What is the term for the greatest common factor of two or more numbers?

is known as the greatest common factor, or GCF.
