Think of times table multiplication, like in elementary school.

add the ones 2*5,

to the 1s column times the 10s column 80

to the 10s times the ones column 150

to the tens times the tens column 1200

so 10 +80 + 150 + 1200 = 1440

* * * * *

Or

32*45 = 16*90

(1) 16*90 = 8*180

(2) 8*180 = 4*360

(3) 4*360 = 2*720

(4) 2*720 = 1440

What two simpler problems can you use to find 4x22?

Two simpler problems? It's not clear what this means.Maybe 2x44 or 8x11? - but they're not really simpler.Maybe (2x2)(2x11), but that doesn't get you closer to the answer.Maybe 4x20=80, 4x2=8 and 80+8=88 - but that's 3 simpler problems.If this is not your question, please clarify and ask the question again. :-)
