Alright, when adding or subtracting fractions, your denominators (the bottom numbers) must match. So we will change 1/4 to it's equivalent fraction 4/16. Then you can subtract the numerators (top numbers). Remember the denominator doesn't change when subtracting.

13/16 - 4/16 = (13-4)/16 = 9/16.

UNLESS your order of the operations is in one of the other three forms (unlikely):

13/(16 - 1/4) = 13/(64/4 - 1/4) = 13/((64-1)/4) = 13/(63/4) = (13*4)/63 = 52/63.

OR

13/((16-1)/4) = 13/(15/4) = (13*4)/15 = 52/15.

OR

(13/(16-1))/4 = (13/15)/4 = 13/(15*4) = 13/60.
