Addition/subtraction of fractions.
4 1/2 - 1 2/3
Steps to take;-
#1 ; convert to improper (top heavy) fractions.
#2 ; bring to a common denominator
#3 ; bring numerators to equivalent values
#4 ; add/subtract numertors as appropriate
#5 ; place over denomiator
#6 ; bring back to a mixed number.
Hence
Step 1' 4 1/2 - 1 2/3 = 9/2 - 5/3
#2 ; 2 x 3 = 6 ( common denomiator)
#3 ; 9 x3 =27 & 5 x 2 = 10 (Equivlent value numerators)
#4 ; 27 - 10 = 17
#5 ; 17/6
#6 ; 17/6 = 2 5/6 The answer!!!!
NB For addition of fractions , it is exactly the same process, except at step #4, you add the numertors.
The answer is 3 over 5.
we can write 6/7-1/3 and this is the same as 18/21-7/21 which is 11/21 if we want to represent this is a decimal it is about .5238 We multiplied the numerator and denominators in both fractions, the first by 3 and the second by 7 to get a common denominator. The we just subtracted.
That would be 7/8.
170/1292 - 57/1292 = 113/1292
2 over 3 is twice is great as 1 over 3.
2 and 3/8
9/11 minus 1/2 is 7/22.
1/3 − 1/12 = 1/4
4/12 minus 1/9 = 2/9 in its simplest form
5/6 − 1/6 = 2/3
4/5 − 1/9 = 31/45
the greater is 1over 5 because 1 over 5 is not equal to 0.2
42/3 - 14/5 = 43/15 or 213/15
18/20 + 8/20 - 5/20 = 21/20 or 1 and 1/20
Converting to twentieths, we get 8 over 20 minus 15 over 20, resulting in minus 7 over 20.
undefined
seven over eight
