It is carbon steel with zinc coating. The 8.8 is a medium carbon steel, quenched and tempered with carbon content between 0.25 to 0.55 %. The first letter A means Zinc. The 2 means the coating thickness is 5 micro-meters. The last 2 means the gloss on the zinc is colourless (its not yellowed or darkened).
