In her early years after her graduate studies, McDuff, in her thesis classified type II_1 algebras. However, in more recent memory, specifically after her time with Gelfand, McDuff became interested in Topology and Geometry. That said, her body of work deals with Symplectic Topology and Geometry. Through various internet sources as well as her own web-page (now at Columbia University), her research looks at Hamiltonian Structures, Group Actions, and more. One might be interested in looking at her book with Salamon, Introduction to Symplectic Topology to really see how she likes to give initial implications of the subject, but moreover read over her bibliography. This might not be the best answer to your question, but none-the-less, should give you some indication how what she works on.
