When n is a positive integer, exponentiation corresponds to repeated multiplacation; in other words, a product of n factors, each of which is equal to b (the product itself can also be called power):

It's a short way of saying a number multiplied by itself many times. For example - 23 is the same as 2x2x2 (the answer is 8) or 58 is the same as 5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5 which equals 390625. Basically - it saves paper and ink !
