There are five different levels in Maslow's hierarchy of needs:

  1. Physiological Needs (bottom of the pyramid). These include the most basic needs and include: breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, and excretion. Maslow believed that these needs are the most basic because all needs become secondary until these physiological needs are met.
  2. Security Needs. Examples include security of: body, employment, resources, morality, health, and property.
  3. Love and Belonging (Social Needs). These include needs for: friendship, family, and sexual intimacy.
  4. Esteem Needs. These includes the need for: self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others and respect for others.
  5. Self-actualizing Needs. This includes individuals who have: morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, and acceptance of facts.
