A square.
The index is 2. If we have the nth root of a number, the index is n. The index means how many times do we multiply the number by itself. So for square roots, we do it twice. For example, square root of 9 is 3 because 3x3 is 9 and index is 2. Cube root of 8 is 2 since 2x2x2=8 so the index is 3 since we multiplied 2 by itself 3 times
You do indicies by multiplying the big number by itself the number of times the index is. for example, if you had 2 2 (2 being the index) it would be 2x2, 4. But if it is 2 3 (3 being the index) it would be 2x2x2, 8.

"The refractive index of water is 4 / 3" means the refractive index of water with respect to air. "The refractive index of glass is 3 /2" means the refractive index of glass with respect to air. You change the question as ," what is the refractive index of glass with respect to water? The answer is it is the ratio of refractive index of of glass with respect to air to the refractive index of water with respect to air =( 3/2) divided by( 4/3) = 1.125

An index is basically a numeric association to an element in a collection of data. When you talk about an index in Java, you will most often be talking about the position of an object in an array.int[] numbers = new int[] {10, 20, 30, 40};Given the array declared above:numbers[0] = 10
